Happy Holi!!!!!!

Happy Holi to our family and friends!!!!!! :-)

For those who do not know, Holi is the Festival of Colors in India. You drench everyone in colored water and throw colored powders on each other. Colors of Joy. It is celebrated as harvest festival as well as welcome-festival for the spring season in India. It is one occasion when sprinkling colored powder ('gulal') or colored water on each other breaks all barriers of discrimination so that everyone looks the same and universal brotherhood is reaffirmed.

Happy Holi to you and yours!!!!!!!! :-)

Love and hugs,

Anisha and Mohit

A Change is Needed

Just heartbreaking. Such disgrace, ignorance, pain, suffering, and shattering. The worst has happened, but now hopefully it will change a nation - and the mentality of people - for the better.

Fight for change. Fight for respect. Fight fo
r equality. Fight for justice. Stand up for all that you believe. I hope and wish to see an equal world, with more understanding human beings.

She fought for her life, but lost. We should fight for justice and change, in her bravery, courage, and willpower to live beyond all of this, in spirit, to invoke change in India.

And all over the world. Global awareness and change is needed.

4 more years!

New Yorkers screaming in the streets. And they have every right to celebrate - we don't have to move to another country!!!! YAY GO OBAMA! So happy I voted :-) WOOOOOO!!!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/decision2012/after-grueling-campaign-polls-open-for-election-day-2012/2012/11/06/d1c24c98-2802-11e2-b4e0-346287b7e56c_story.html

Obama wins a second term as U.S. president

A sharply divided America awarded President Barack Obama a second term Tuesday, choosing him over Republican Mitt Romney to lead the repair of an economy that by far remains the country’s biggest concern, the Washington Post projects.
The president was poised to narrowly win several tight races in a handful of battleground states. It was the culmination of a staggeringly expensive, extremely close and sometimes bitter contest far removed from Obama’s 2008 message of hope and change.
Democrats also held onto their majority in the Senate, picking up two seats in early returns with the possibility of a third.
In early results, Obama won his home state of Illinois as well as Massachusetts, where Romney was governor and the place he still calls home. Maryland and the District of Columbia were put in Obama’s column as soon as polls there closed.
After more than $2 billion in campaign spending, unprecedented hours of television ads and a record number of voters who cast their ballots before Tuesday, Election Day 2012 was told in timeless tableaus of lines outside schools, volunteers waving signs and Americans emerging with “I Voted” stickers attached to their jackets.

Here we go......

Hurricane Sandy

http://news.yahoo.com/sandy-storm-surge-pose-worst-case-scenario-201317558.html

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/time-lapse-views-hurricane-sandy-space-shows-enormity-153449271.html

Time-lapse images from high above Earth show Hurricane Sandy bearing down on the East Coast, highlighting the storm's enormous size.
NASA's Earth Observatory has released time-lapse animation of the powerful hurricane from a satellite 22,300 miles above ground. The images reveal details of Sandy's motion and eye wall.
Hurricane Sandy was shown approximately 275 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C., and moving northeast at 14 mph during the time of the photographs. NASA notes that the structures of the clouds are highlighted by the changing angles of the sun.
The animation was created from photos taken every minute from 7:15 a.m. to 6:26 p.m. ET on Sunday. More images can be viewed at the Earth Observatory site.
The immense storm has prompted emergency evacuations, closed offices and delayed flights along the East Coast.

Finally got my diploma!!

Yay! It's for real now! :-)
Anisha Bhagat, MBA

New dream job!

I wanted to share the amazingly great news that I got a new job, in my field of healthcare management - my first job as a manager - at the number one ranked medical center in the country.

I am an Administrative Manager at Columbia University Medical Center :-) It has been about three weeks now, and I continue to learn so much on a daily basis, while working hard in my department, and staying very busy :-) It has been a long road and a lot of hard work, both with my MBA, and job applications, to finally reach this stage, which is like a dream come true for me :-)

I am working with incredible people and knowledgeable staff at one of the top medical institutions in the country. A place where lives are changed on a daily basis. I am continuing my passion for health care and helping others. A position, company and opportunity that really supports and ties in with my MBA in Health Services Management, and takes my job to a new level, and career to new heights. I am thankful and humbled.

No fear. New job!

Sometimes we let fear get the better of us, but if we don't take risks or chances or incredible opportunities in front of us, then how will we move forward, do amazing things, live a great life and help change the world. I received an incredible job opportunity, in line with my MBA, at one of the top medical institution's in the country. I was scared to resign at my current job, nervous at the reaction, but I did it, and I am so glad I did, because I have to move forward, take risks and embrace new opportunities. Because I want to grow in my field of health care management, help others, promote positive change, and that will contribute to my part of helping to change the world.

New York = Equal Love

Saturday, June 25, 2011

NYC pic

The Empire State Building lit up with rainbow colors to represent and celebrate both Gay Pride weekend in New York, and the Senate passing a same-sex / equality rights for marriage law (only by 4 votes, and that too in a Republican controlled Senate). Overwhelmingly amazing! YAH GO NEW YORK! GO EQUALITY AND LOVE AND HUMANITY! :-)

YAHH!! GO NEW YORK!!!

New York legalized same-sex marriage.

New York passes equal marriage law.

http://wvgazette.com/News/201106250022

"It's truly a historic night for love, our families, and democracy won.'' "New York became the sixth and largest state in the country to legalize gay marriage, breathing life into the national gay rights movement that had stalled over a nearly identical bill here two years ago."

http://harvardcrcl.org/2011/06/25/new-york-passes-marriage-equality/

"New York becomes the largest state to entrench marriage equality, and the legislature’s reversal may create momentum for proponents nationwide. The result will likely be attributed to shifting public opinion. A Quinnipiac poll cited by the New York Times suggested that support for gay marriage amongst New Yorkers rose from 37% to 58% in the two years separating the failed vote from the successful one."

Restoring the Light

My friend Carol, who graduated from NYU film school, is a documentary filmmaker. For the past 3 years, she has been living in China and making a film about a rural eye doctor who gives up his savings and home in order to bring transformative eye care to the remote villages of northwest China. Carol says, “As I followed the journey of his mobile clinic, I discovered incredible stories of resilience in the everyday lives of people living in this region: I met a brilliant young boy who spent everyday penned in his yard because of his blindness, yet who dreamt of becoming a truck driver to support his family; a young woman who, in spite of a debilitating bone infection, became the first in her family to attend college. Her family lived in a cave for over 60 years. She wants to become an artist.”

About the film: "Restoring the Light" is an hour-long feature documentary about a local eye doctor's quest to provide free healthcare to remote impoverished villages in northwest China. His journey reveals an intimate portrait of an unobserved Chinese farming community's resilience and hope. Carol's film, “Restoring the Light,” has an incredible trailer, more about the film, opportunities to donate, etc on her film’s website:
http://www.restoringthelight.com

We are so lucky and blessed to live in a country where eye care is both accessible and affordable, especially through health/vision insurance. Since I work at the Eye-Bank for Sight Restoration, we see/hear/know about the miracles of eye transplants on a daily basis.
I cannot imagine all that Carol has encountered on her journey.
Thank you for reading,
Anisha

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet

Sat by the river and it made me complete

Oh simple thing, where have you gone

...
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go somewhere only we know

Somewhere only we know

Tsunami in Japan

Please go online and donate to the victims of the Japan tsunami right now. I read an article on CNN that a lot of bogus websites are going to pop up during this crisis, where the money is not going to Japan. For this reason, donate through official sites, like Red Cross, and Save the Children International, etc. If you don't want to donate online, you can text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to Japans emergency relief. Help others, in general every day, but especially in times of crisis and need. And this is a global crisis. Please go and donate. Do this to help others. Please do it now. Thank you.

This One's For the Girls

I first heard this song during a summer at camp. It's such a sweet, beautiful and true song about being proud to be a girl at any age, and how the different stages of life are all to be celebrated with love and happiness :-) The video is sweet and adorable also :-) This song always makes me teary and emotional - not just because it reminds me of camp days, but because the lyrics are so beautiful and empowering to love yourself at any age and be happy and love :-)

This One's For the Girls
by Martina McBride

This is for all you girls about 13
High school can be so rough, can be so mean
Hold on to, on to your innocence
Stand your ground when everybody's givin' in
This one's for the girls

This is for all you girls about 25
In little apartments, just tryin' to get by
Livin' on, on dreams and spaghettios
Wonderin' where your life is gonna go

This one's for the girls
Who've ever had a broken heart
Who've wished upon a shooting star
You're beautiful the way you are
This one's for the girls
Who love without holdin' back
Who dream with everything they have
All around the world, this one's for the girls
(This one's for all the girls)

This is for all you girls about 42
Tossin' pennies into the fountain of youth
Every laugh, laugh line on your face
Made you who you are today

Yeah, we're all the same inside
From 1 to 99

This one's for the girls

OMG

"Snow drifts and ice stalled a New York City subway train this morning, trapping passengers without heat, food, or water for more than six hours--even as the train was mere feet away from a subway platform. They were just some of the countless people left stranded by a powerful East Coast blizzard that shut down roads, rail lines, and major airports. The train was finally towed to a nearby station just before 8am. Meanwhile, thousands of travelers were stranded overnight at the New York City area's three airports, Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Newark, after more than 1400 flights were cancelled. Blankets and cots were provided in some cases, but some passengers who had already checked their bags were not allowed to retrieve them, and so had no extra clothing or toiletries."
