August 12, 2011

In the past six months, I have had two days off from work (not counting weekends). One was to take an MBA summer semester final. And the other is today - a beautiful, non-rainy, wonderful, warm summer day in New York City, that I am spending out and about, with the love of my life, celebrating our 3 year anniversary together :-) Couldn't ask for a better Friday in August!

Best. Day. Ever. Happy 3 year anniversary to the love of my life
- and cheers to many more to come! :-) and happy Friday to everyone else hehehehe!

New York = Equal Love

NYC pic

The Empire State Building lit up with rainbow colors to represent and celebrate both Gay Pride weekend in New York, and the Senate passing a same-sex / equality rights for marriage law (only by 4 votes, and that too in a Republican controlled Senate). Overwhelmingly amazing! YAH GO NEW YORK! GO EQUALITY AND LOVE AND HUMANITY! :-)

YAHH!! GO NEW YORK!!!

New York legalized same-sex marriage.

New York passes equal marriage law.

http://wvgazette.com/News/201106250022

"It's truly a historic night for love, our families, and democracy won.'' "New York became the sixth and largest state in the country to legalize gay marriage, breathing life into the national gay rights movement that had stalled over a nearly identical bill here two years ago."

http://harvardcrcl.org/2011/06/25/new-york-passes-marriage-equality/

"New York becomes the largest state to entrench marriage equality, and the legislature’s reversal may create momentum for proponents nationwide. The result will likely be attributed to shifting public opinion. A Quinnipiac poll cited by the New York Times suggested that support for gay marriage amongst New Yorkers rose from 37% to 58% in the two years separating the failed vote from the successful one."

Restoring the Light

My friend Carol, who graduated from NYU film school, is a documentary filmmaker. For the past 3 years, she has been living in China and making a film about a rural eye doctor who gives up his savings and home in order to bring transformative eye care to the remote villages of northwest China. Carol says, “As I followed the journey of his mobile clinic, I discovered incredible stories of resilience in the everyday lives of people living in this region: I met a brilliant young boy who spent everyday penned in his yard because of his blindness, yet who dreamt of becoming a truck driver to support his family; a young woman who, in spite of a debilitating bone infection, became the first in her family to attend college. Her family lived in a cave for over 60 years. She wants to become an artist.”

About the film: "Restoring the Light" is an hour-long feature documentary about a local eye doctor's quest to provide free healthcare to remote impoverished villages in northwest China. His journey reveals an intimate portrait of an unobserved Chinese farming community's resilience and hope. Carol's film, “Restoring the Light,” has an incredible trailer, more about the film, opportunities to donate, etc on her film’s website:
http://www.restoringthelight.com

We are so lucky and blessed to live in a country where eye care is both accessible and affordable, especially through health/vision insurance. Since I work at the Eye-Bank for Sight Restoration, we see/hear/know about the miracles of eye transplants on a daily basis.
I cannot imagine all that Carol has encountered on her journey.
Thank you for reading,
Anisha

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet

Sat by the river and it made me complete

Oh simple thing, where have you gone

...
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go somewhere only we know

Somewhere only we know

tv shoot!

Law and Order CI filmed outside my work today on Wall Street. I saw them shoot the same detective scene 12 times! Reminds me of my days working in film in Cali :-) And yes I did see Vincent D'Onofrio aka Detective Goren and Kathryn Erbe aka Detective Eames :-)

Judas

Only Gaga can take two biblical characters and make a hit pop dance song out of it - and I LOVE IT! Can't stop dancing :-)

The lyrics remind me of the struggle between good and evil....really interesting!

Happy Easter!

Tsunami in Japan

Please go online and donate to the victims of the Japan tsunami right now. I read an article on CNN that a lot of bogus websites are going to pop up during this crisis, where the money is not going to Japan. For this reason, donate through official sites, like Red Cross, and Save the Children International, etc. If you don't want to donate online, you can text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to Japans emergency relief. Help others, in general every day, but especially in times of crisis and need. And this is a global crisis. Please go and donate. Do this to help others. Please do it now. Thank you.

This One's For the Girls

I first heard this song during a summer at camp. It's such a sweet, beautiful and true song about being proud to be a girl at any age, and how the different stages of life are all to be celebrated with love and happiness :-) The video is sweet and adorable also :-) This song always makes me teary and emotional - not just because it reminds me of camp days, but because the lyrics are so beautiful and empowering to love yourself at any age and be happy and love :-)

This One's For the Girls
by Martina McBride

This is for all you girls about 13
High school can be so rough, can be so mean
Hold on to, on to your innocence
Stand your ground when everybody's givin' in
This one's for the girls

This is for all you girls about 25
In little apartments, just tryin' to get by
Livin' on, on dreams and spaghettios
Wonderin' where your life is gonna go

This one's for the girls
Who've ever had a broken heart
Who've wished upon a shooting star
You're beautiful the way you are
This one's for the girls
Who love without holdin' back
Who dream with everything they have
All around the world, this one's for the girls
(This one's for all the girls)

This is for all you girls about 42
Tossin' pennies into the fountain of youth
Every laugh, laugh line on your face
Made you who you are today

Yeah, we're all the same inside
From 1 to 99

This one's for the girls
